What Is a Random Letter Generator?
A random letter generator is an online tool that selects one or more letters from the English alphabet (A–Z) at random. Instead of choosing a letter yourself, you can let the generator make the selection for you.
With this Random Letter Generator, you can generate a single letter or a sequence of multiple letters, choose uppercase or lowercase formatting, and exclude specific letters from the results. It can be useful for word games, spelling practice, classroom activities, writing prompts, and other tasks that need a random letter selection.
How to Use the Random Letter Generator
Using the Random Letter Generator takes just a few steps. Choose whether you want one letter or multiple letters, adjust the available settings, and generate your result.

Generate Another Letter
Want a different result? Click Generate again to make another selection using your current settings. You can keep the same letter case and excluded-letter choices, or change them before generating again.
If you select Multiple letters mode, enter the number of letters you want and generate a new sequence. The generator avoids repeating letters within the same multiple-letter result, and excluded letters won’t appear in the selection.
Random Letter Generator Options
The Random Letter Generator includes several options to help you customize your results. You can choose the number of letters, change their case, and exclude specific letters before generating your selection.
Available Letters and Alphabet Range
The generator uses the 26 letters of the English alphabet, from A to Z. You can select uppercase, lowercase, or mixed case depending on your needs. If you want to avoid certain letters, select them in the exclusion grid before generating your result. Excluded letters will not appear in the generated selection.
Single-Letter or Multiple-Letter Generation
Choose Single letter to generate one random letter at a time. If you need more than one, switch to Multiple letters and enter a quantity from 1 to 26. The generator selects letters without repeating them within the same result.
The number of letters you can generate depends on how many letters remain available after exclusions. For example, if you exclude five letters, you can generate up to 21 letters in one multiple-letter result. You can also use the Generate again button to create another selection with your current settings.
Ways to Use Random Letters
Random letters can make everyday activities more engaging, whether you’re playing a game, practicing the alphabet, or looking for a starting point for a creative idea.
Word Games and Alphabet Challenges
Use the Random Letter Generator to choose a starting letter for word games and alphabet challenges. Players can take turns naming an animal, food, place, or object that begins with the selected letter. You can also set a time limit or challenge players to find as many matching words as possible.
Learning and Classroom Activities
Teachers, parents, and students can use random letters for spelling practice, vocabulary building, and alphabet recognition. Generate a letter and ask learners to write words that begin with it, practice its uppercase and lowercase forms, or find objects around them that start with the same letter.
Creative Writing and Brainstorming
A random letter can be a simple starting point when you need inspiration. Generate a letter and use it to brainstorm character names, business names, story openings, or creative writing prompts. For an extra challenge, generate multiple letters and try to build a word or come up with an idea using the available letters.
